My family is from India
They speak Hindi
I remember the sounds
Of my family speaking our native language
That I will forever remember
Because these are my roots
Though I may have started as a seed.

I remember taking pictures on our Gazebo.
Biking around our neighborhood circle,
And the fishes in our pond

I remember how we would go outside in the winter
When the cold hit my skin
And the wind howled,
And build snowmen of carrot noses and coal eyes.

My religion is very important to me
The pictures of God placed around our house
Tell the many stories of Hinduism and its history.

I remember listening to my grandmother’s soft, beautiful singing
Her voice would paint the picture of a little girl feeling the bread on a swing
The song made me feel peaceful
It made me feel at home

My family is from India
My religion is very important to me
The pictures of God placed around our house
Are only a reminder of the many stories of Hinduism, its history.

I remember the sounds.
